A quintessential early Duran Duran show. What an amazing recording. This captures a young and hungry DD out to conquer the american public. The audio quality is awesome, but there is a slight layer of hiss over the top of the recording. Also, one channel of the audio is slightly louder than the other. I did my best to even everything out, but couldn't get it perfect. Still, I can't imagine anyone being disappointed with the content of this cd. After you hear it you'll know why it's one of the most sought after early Duran Duran bootlegs.

The Lost Paris Tapes:

In 1995, the original tapes were bought by a German fan for $10,000.

On 11th March 1971, Jim Morrison arrived in Paris. In Mid June, during his usual walks he found a recording studio on the streets of St. Germain des Pres. He returned on 16th June to listen to a reel to reel of the March 1969 LA Poetry Session. Stepping out for drinks he met 2 American guitarists at the Cafe de Flore, bought them a drink and invited them back to the studio. He's supposed to have told the engineer they were his own band "Jomo And The Smoothies" and paid for an hour of recording.

The warm up, tuning and a very weird version of "Orange County Suite" was recorded on tape. After cutting the tape they left the studio and went seperate ways. Jim wanted to go for more drinks but didn't wanna carry the bag around and risk losing it so he decided to pay his friend Phillipe who lived around the corner a visit.

They shared a few drinks and copied some poetry tapes on cassette. When Jim left he carried the two cassettes but forgot original two reels. One was the poetry tape - the master copy from Elektra Records' archives, and the master of the recording he and the musicians had just made as Jomo And The Smoothies. Phillipe seems to have run after him to return the bag but as Jim was already going down in the lift, he's supposed to have asked Phillipe to keep it till he'd collect it later.

Jim Morrison died 2 weeks later. The bag that was left with Phillipe consisted in addition to the two reels, his Paris Journal, Private photos, and 2 newspaper articles. The bag remained in Phillipe's cupboard till he attend Morrison's 50th Birthday Celebrations in Paris in 1993.

Notes:

The album presented here is a live recording from the 1975 first tour by the new line-up, and is the source for the 1990's CD distributed by King Biscuit Flower Hour for broadcast by radio stations in the US. As they had not yet established themselves let alone reached the mega-stardom that came with their next album 'Rumours', the band plays a mixture of songs from the current album, which was also entitled 'Fleetwood Mac', and from earlier line-ups, as well as one from the 'Buckingham Nicks' album. There is no adverts and announcer breaks that were built in to the KBFH CD so this version plays as an uninterrupted live album.

There has long been a bootleg available claiming to be sourced from a KBFH show from this tour crediting the concert as being recorded at New Haven, Connecticut on 11 November 1975, with artwork from that release included in the download. However, the fairly reliable tour schedule hosted at http://www.fmlegacy.com/concertsfmwhite.html shows the band as playing Texas and out West in early November and Birmingham, Alabama on 12 November followed by several gigs in North Carolina, so it is highly unlikely they travelled to Connecticut for one show on 11 November. A number of download sites offering versions of this CD release credit the concert as being recorded at the Capitol Theatre, Passaic, New Jersey on 17 October 1975 (among a range of other dates including May), while the current KBFH website has a concert available for online streaming credited as being recorded at the New Jersey venue on 7 June 1975. Although the concert schedule shows the band played that venue on both of these dates, it would seem that the June date listed on the offical site is most likely to be the correct one.

Notes by the taper:
Thanks go to my source for the TV Edit and Jim (BTB) for allowing me to use his version to blend both to actually almost achieving a full show...I mixed in 8 songs from the TV edit to the existing BTB including replacing Dance The Night Away with the edit version..The audio I wanted to add FM audio but unfortunately and after hours of frustration Had to keep reg audio instead and managed to clean up regular audio since Caracas TV as I was told used a lot of out of sync footage and they have lots of pic slow-mos as you will see but no worries audio is dead on.

Tracks 1 thtough 6 and 8 & 17 are all from TV Edit.....

Dance The Night Away audio near end of song where Dave is in crowd has lots of Crowd hiss so I replace that part with BTB audio

Happy Trails is mixture between Edit and BTB

The Edit audio is higher with crowd noise while BTB is lower with les crowd noise....I kept BTB's 448 kbps 5.1 AC3 audio...through out whole DVD..:-)

A word on the ELP 12-09-1970 show at the Lyceum Theatre.
This is the ELP from the beginning. The first show from the group ever was in August 23th, 1970 at Plymouth Guildhall (six days before their show at the gigantic Isle of Wight Festival). So the Lyceum show was from a time the group had been playing live only for about 3 months. Their first album was released on 11-20-1970 in the UK and on 01-13-1971 in the USA, so by the time they did the Lyceum show the album was a fresh new release, still unavailable in the US. The Lyceum Theatre is a 2,000-seat West End theatre (opened in 14th July, 1834) located in the City of Westminster, on Wellington Street, just off the Strand. In such a place and occasion, one can see an ELP completely apart from the supergroup stigma created by the idiotic critics. They were simply playing there to a small audience, in a kind of intimate show to their standards. Pay attention to the audience, which is very interesting in itself. Many times you can see it soundless, some people even eyes closed, contemplating the band playing. Moreover, the band mood is excellent. They seem to be good pals and the magic they can do together is still news even to them. More than once, you see a member watching the other play with an interest comparable to the audience's. One can understand why: the musical technique of Keith Emerson, Greg Lake and Carl Palmer has made ELP a legend, and already then their live playing could be as flawless as a studio album (Emerson piano solo in "The Barbarian" is a good proof of that)! Just watch it!

Very cool recording from Milano 1981. Taken from the original silver pressed bootleg "The best rock 'n' roll orchestra". During this period Dire Straits experimented a lot with their music. Adding new sounds, new arrangements and also new songs, plus some new band members. This is the "missing link" between the old Dire Straits and the new which you can hear on Love over Gold and on Alchemy at it's peak. This is perhaps the most interesting period with Dire Straits because of the experiments in the sound."

Backstreets.com synopsis:
The longest, at three and a half hours, and arguably the hottest of the three holiday shows. As Bruce told the crowd at the beginning, "This is our Saturday Night Special even though it's Monday night." There was little variation in the set, but as practice tends to make perfect, a tight night three had MVP Sam Moore in peak form. No DeVito or JBJ, though all of the other guests returned -- and we got a little more Sam and a little more holiday spirit as the Soul Man joined in for the only "Merry Christmas Baby" of the run. We also got "96 Tears" in Garland's set and a real highlight in Southside's set, with the Bruce-penned "Talk to Me." The blazing "What's So Funny..." was again sent out to our troops in Iraq as a prayer for peace. Happy holidays and to all a good night!

All I can say is FUCKING WOW!! What a wonderful show by the Lucinda Williams - Blake Mills duo. Sans a drum kit, this acoustic electric show was one of the best I've seen by Lucinda, and I've seen her plenty. The mix was perfect, and the room acoustics were pristine. Lu even commented several times on the beautiful sounding room. We were also pleasently surprised by Doug Pettibone on the last 2 songs. I'm not sure if this was planned and is gonna be a regular thing on this tour, but Lucinda clearly appreciated being in what she called "guitar heaven". The crowd was respectful and enthusiastic. The only flaw in this is an often loud clapper seated nearby, but only between songs and IMHO doesn't detract from the experience at all.

The picture quality is very good. Shot in B/W film with a hand held camera from the right side of the stage. There is time code on the bottom of the screen. The audio appears to be from the camera, and not from a soundboard source. Lot's of great closeups of Pete, as the cameraman was right next to him. The Abbie Hoffman footage has been removed, but you can hear Pete's comments following the incident. Many of the songs have cuts in them, so this is not the complete performance. The show runs around 46 minutes. I received a non-critical compliance error when burning the DVD, but it burned and played back with no problem, so just ignore it if you encounter that.

This is as close as you'll ever get the high speed reel master source. AJD owns the original PCM transfer from those reels and the reels have since been destroyed by fire. This originally came from Bill Graham's vault. The original PCM is the now definitive source, but was not widely circulating until now. This is the most complete tape circulated in this quality to date.

PCM was used before DAT machines were invented and were the first means of digital recording. An A/D signal converter was used to to encode analog audio from tape reels to (Sony recommended) BETAMAX tapes in a standard BETA machine. A PCM encoder, coupled to a VCR, enables you to record digital audio as if it was an ordinary video signal. The device also extracts the digital audio message from the video signal, the other way round, for playback.

This PCM was likely made with either the PCM-1 (1977) or the PCM-F1 (1981).

What you are receiving is a direct digital transfer done by the owner of the PCM recording, AJD, a professional audio guru. The PCM machine used for the transfer is a SONY PCM-601ESD, originally sold in 1984-1985. The PCM-601ESD had the important advantages of S/PDIF digital I/O and adjustable tracking and VCR head-matching circuits and was the best digital storage technology available at the time.

These units are pretty hard to come by these days.

I took his transfer and mastered it for release, then encoded to FLAC8. Notice it it not a "remaster" since was never actually mastered, just transferred from old media to new as the technology progressed.

For those who would ask:
This is better quality than "Blues Anytime" from EVSD. The tape is more complete and the audio quality is at least a generation cleaner, if not two. The stereo separation is MUCH better on this transfer than whatever EVSD used. The first few notes on BIGLY have obviously been spliced in by EVSD from a distorted source (probably not even the same date) and do not exist on the master PCM.

This is more complete and better quality than the original "Dancing Avocado". When I put that one out, the source I was given had been through more DAT and CDR gens.

This show had some PA problems in a few places (Jones' bass rig, mainly) and the PA had a slight buzz all night (only noticeable between songs or very quiet passages). But hey, that's how it went down that night, so it's just like being there - except - Plant's mic seems distant - which adds credibility to the 2 neumanns on stage thing. They'd have picked up the drums and amps and Roberts voice would have been on the house PA, which was probably just forward of the mics (or in line). I kind of like it this way - as I can really hear the band!

Here's the original notes:
This show popped up out of nowhere in the late 90's and was suddenly everywhere! Numerous bootlegs appeared; this is direct from silver; "From Newport to the Ancient Empty Street in L.A." on Dandelion (DL 061/62). The discs came with lots of other tracks, but I'm pretty sure that most wound up on the new official release "Bootleg Series vol.7" When I know what's on that, I may post the rest of the tracks...

This is a perfect soundboard. The electric set is with The Band (yes, with Levon Helm too). It's got a few songs that don't appear in the more common 1966 shows. It's missing the crucial energy that the '66 Europe shows have; but hell, it's a soundboard with The Band from '65 in perfect sound. That alone makes this a must!

This is the quite rare 3rd recorder from Montreal. The sound is absolutely horrendous.
Apparently it was recorded from the back of the stadium. Pigs is only 9 minutes (till the
end). Everything bad about an amateur recording is here. Really … this is for completists
only.

My comments:
There's an inner cut right in the beginning of Sheep, seems like if the recorder pushed the
pause button accidentally. The original version i received had SBEs so i checked them and
fixed them with Trader's Little Helper 1.0.0.72 and re-encode to FLAC (level 5).
